前蛋白转化酶枯草溶菌素(PCSK9)是分泌型枯草杆菌蛋白酶家族的蛋白酶K亚家族成员。它在内质网中进行分子内自催化加工,以可溶性酶原形式被合成。PCSK9与低密度脂蛋白(LDL)胆固醇受体结合,诱导LDLR降解。PCSK9变异可降低或升高循环的胆固醇。其它的变异与非常罕见的常染色体显性遗传的家族性高胆固醇血症(HCHOLA3)有关。突变增强了其蛋白酶活性,降低LDLR水平,阻止细胞吸收胆固醇。
